The Common Law Admission Test is popular among undergrads, we say this because there are 50K+ aspirants every year. The NLU Consortium has released the CLAT UG syllabus on its official website – consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The syllabus of CLAT contains the topics from which questions will be framed in the examination. CLAT aspirants by consulting the syllabus would be able to identify which topics are important and which are not. This can help add efficiency to one’s CLAT exam preparation and reduce time wastage. The consortium has also released the section-wise questions asked and weightage. This information can help you prioritize topics and devise a strategy. For example, focusing on topics that carry more weightage will give you more chances of score higher.

CLAT UG paper has five sections – English Language, Current Affairs, including GK, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.

CLAT Syllabus – Undergraduate

The CLAT UG paper will have FIVE sections:

  1. English Language
  2. Current Affairs, including General Knowledge
  3. Legal Reasoning
  4. Logical Reasoning
  5. Quantitative Techniques

CLAT UG Syllabus for English language

The English language section of CLAT 2021 will include 28-32 questions; note each question will be of 1 mark. The section will have four to five comprehension passages of about 450 words each. The content of the passages will be derived from contemporary or historically significant fiction and non-fiction writing. Each passage will be followed by four to five objective-type questions. The English section of CLAT 2021 will test the reading ability of students.

CLAT UG Syllabus for Current affairs, including general knowledge

The Current Affairs, including General Knowledge, section will include around 35-39 questions, which is around 25% weightage of the question paper. Questions will be asked from comprehension passages, each 450-words long. The passages will be drawn from the topics like news, legal editorials, and opinions, journalistic sources, non-fiction writing.

The Legal Reasoning section of the CLAT 2021 question paper will contribute around 35-39 questions, or carry 25% weightage. Each question will be of 1 mark; -1/4 mark for an incorrect answer. Questions will be asked from 450-word passages, which will be drawn from fact situations or scenarios involving legal matters, public policy questions, or moral philosophical inquiries.

CLAT UG Syllabus for Logical Reasoning

This section will carry 20% weightage and contribute 28-32 questions. There will be around four to five comprehension passages of around 300-words each. Each question will be of 1 mark, while for an incorrect response, 0.25 marks will be deducted.

CLAT UG Syllabus for Quantitative Techniques

The quantitative section will be of Class 10th level. There will be questions from short sets of facts or propositions, graphs, or other textual, pictorial, or diagrammatic representations of numerical information. Candidates will be required to derive information from such facts, diagrams, passages, graphs, or other representations and apply the mathematical formulas and operations to answer the questions. Overall, there will be around 13-17 questions, each carrying 1 mark.

Topics to be studied: Ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration, and statistical estimation, percentage, loss, and profit, etc.
