Eligibility of Odisha Judicial Service

  • The candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • The candidate must have acquired a law degree from a recognized institute or university.
  • Age limit- 21 to 35 years.
  • For SC/ ST candidates, refer to the official notification for details.

Pay Scale-

Rs. 27,700-44,700/- with usual dearness allowance and other allowances as sanctioned by the government.

Patterns & Syllabus of Odisha Judicial Service

The examination process typically occurs in 3phases-

  1. Preliminary
  2. Mains
  3. Interview

Preliminary Examination

100 MCQs of 1 mark each-

  • Constitution of India
  • Code of Civil Procedure
  • Code of Criminal Procedure
  • Evidence Act
  • Indian Penal Code
  • Limitation Act
  • Transfer of Property Act
  • Contact Act
  • Law of Succession
  • Specific Relief Act

Mains

Compulsory paper of 150 marks for 2 hour duration and optional paper of 150 marks for 3 hours duration-

Compulsory Paper-
Paper 1 – General English
  • Translation and retranslation of ten lines each
  • A short essay of about 150 words
  • Precis writing consisting of 300 words
  • 1 (one) passage of about 500 words with 5 questions
Paper 2 – Procedural Laws
  • The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973
  • The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908
  • The Indian Evidence Act, 1872
Optional Papers

A candidate may choose any of the three subjects among the following –

  • Law of Crime & Law of Torts
  • Personal Law: Hindu Law; Mohammedan Law
  • Law of Property: Transfer of Property Act, 1882; Specific Relief Act, 1963; Indian Limitation
  • Act, 1963
  • Law of Contract: Indian Contract Act, 1872; Sales of Goods Act, 1930; Partnership Act,
  • 1932; Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881
  • Jurisprudence and Constitution of India

Interview/ Viva-Voce
