We will be discussing the eligibility, syllabus and other relevant information regarding the Karnataka Judicial Service.
Eligibility of Karnataka Judicial Service
- The candidate must be a citizen of India.
- The candidate must have acquired a law degree from a recognized institute or university.
- Age limit- 21 to 35 years.
- For SC/ ST candidates, refer to the official notification for details.
Pay Scale-
Rs. 27,700-44,700/- with usual dearness allowance and other allowances as sanctioned by the government.
Patterns & Syllabus of Karnataka Judicial Service
The examination process typically occurs in 3phases-
- Preliminary
- Mains
- Interview
Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination (Screening Test) shall consist of the Objective type questions of 100
marks out of which 90 marks will cover :
PART – A
Code of Civil Procedure, 1908;
Negotiable Instruments Act, 1981;
Transfer of Property Act, 1882;
Indian Contract Act, 1872;
Specic Relief Act, 1963;
Indian Constitution; and
Karnataka Rent Act, 1999.
PART – B
Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973;
Indian Penal code, 1860; and
Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
Part C
General Knowledge
Mains
Translation Paper (Maximum Marks 100)
There will be one translation paper and the candidates will be required to translate passages in
English into Kannada and Kannada into English. The Passages will be from
- Depositions
- Judgments
- Documents.
Law Paper I (Maximum Marks 100)
The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908;
The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973;
The Indian Evidence Act, 1872;
Principles of Pleading and the Constitution of India
Law Paper II (Maximum Marks 100)
Framing of Issues and writing of Judgments in Civil Cases.
Law Paper III (Maximum Marks 100)
Framing of Charges and writing of Judgments in Criminal cases.
Interview/ Viva-Voce
Interview of 100 marks.
Computer Test
The test of knowledge of computers shall carry maximum 25 marks and such marks secured by the
candidate shall be considered for ascertaining the suitability and computer knowledge of the
candidates and shall not be aggregated to the total marks obtained in the written examination and
Viva-Voce.
