BREAKING- BCI declared that all students to be promoted on basis of previous year’s marks and internal marks of current year except final year students

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has issued guidelines for the promotion of law students to subsequent year and also the conduct of law exams amid the COVID-19 crisis.

In this regard, it’s been clarified that each one students, except final year law students, would be promoted to subsequent year on the basis of the previous year’s marks and marks obtained within the internal examination of the present year.

As far as final year law students pursuing the 5-year or 3-year law programmes are concerned, it’s stated:

Final year students of 3-year and 5-year LL.B courses could also be allowed to seem for online examinations.

Alternatively, the schools may adopt the other appropriate method which they feel is capable satisfy the wants of normal examination. Under this technique the University may allow students to write down a project report/research paper for every paper of ultimate year or they’ll adopt a full proof method to double the interior marks of the semester exams already held for such year.

Final year LL.B students haven’t cleared all papers of the previous years and are required to take a seat within the supplementary examination, but who are promoted to final year could also be allowed to write down a project report or appear in online examination with reference to the pending/ supplementary papers, in order that they might also pass within time.

As far as students aside from those within the final year are concerned, today’s notice also states that on the reopening of the schools the top semester exam with reference to the year from which they need been promoted must be conducted within an inexpensive period of your time .

In the meanwhile, however, the promoted students can still study within the year to which they need been promoted following the BCI ‘s direction today.

However, it adds, ” if they’re unable to pass/clear any such paper of such end semester exam of the year from which they need been promoted, they shall need to clear an equivalent , before they’re granted the degree.”

Further, where the scholars are promoted to the ultimate year by virtue of those directions, they shall need to pass all papers so as to get their degree/s.

Directions have also been issued to make sure that the University maintains requisite COVID-19 protocol and follows the norms of social distancing on campus, which all class rooms and examination halls are properly sanitized to guard the security and health of the scholars . The BCI also adds that the schools should maintain the very best academic standards while conducting exams.

These directions are issued following a review by the Legal Education Committee headed by former Supreme Court judge, Justice (retd.) AP Mishra earlier today.
