Hearing of PIL in Supreme Court concerning Khap Panchayats, CJI Dipak Misra gave some interesting comments. The PIL by NGO Shakti Vahini came up for hearing before a Bench of CJI Misra and Justices Khanwilkar and Chandrachud.

In this way, a gathering face to face speaking to the Khap Panchayats rose to talk, when Justice Misra went ahead to comment,
“Any grown-up lady or man can wed anybody of their decision. No Khap or society can question it.”
The Court on demand of Central Govt. gave the next hearing date i.e. on February 5.
