How to prepare for CLAT Legal REASONING/ Aptitude – Approach
With the old exam pattern, candidates were required to mug up the facts and to develop the prior understanding of the legal subjects. However, with the changes coming into effect, the candidates need to focus on developing their intellect, critical thinking and reading skills. So, the approach has to be in line with what is required to clear the examination.
As Rajneesh Singh, CLAT mentor points, the better prepared candidates will be those who have a habit of reading books and newspapers. The CLAT aspirants have to develop a fine reading ability with a sense of critically analysing the texts.
The comprehension passages will have the arguments, counter arguments and main theme. Candidates will first need to identify the main theme around which all the arguments and counter arguments hang. The central theme can be identified by careful reading of the passages.
So, during the preparation phase, candidates must read the complex text, articles, news and try to understand the given text. Candidates will need to identify on what argument or counter argument a certain point is given. The candidate is expected to know the basic legal aspect of the arguments such as Acts, principles and facts. However, such information can also be drawn from the passage.
