Valedictory Session of 10th Prof (Dr) VS Mani Memorial International Law Moot Court Competition conducted by the Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur National University

KLE University, Bengaluru, wins 10^th Prof VS Mani Memorial International Law Moot Court Competition at Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur National University, Jaipur 

JAIPUR, 16^th March, 2024: The three-day event of 10^th Prof VS Mani Memorial International Law Moot Court Competition at the Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur National University, concluded today with KLE University, Bengaluru,  being declared the winner with trophy and cash prize of Rs 30,000 and Marwadi University, Rajkot, the runner up with a trophy and cash prize of Rs 20,000.  1^st Best Researcher went to Makwana Hempallavi Govindbhai, Marwardi University, Rajkot and 2^nd Bes Researcher Karnika Solani, Institute of Law, Nirma University, Ahmedabad. 1^st Best Written Submission went to Omkar Mangesh Rane, Arjun Rahul Sathe, and Anjishnu Chakraborty of Symbiosis Law School, Pune and 2^nd Best Written Submission went to Mukul, Madhav and Mimanshak of University Institute of Legal Studies, Punjab University, Chandigarh. Best speaker went to  Omkar Mangesh Rane of Symbiosis Law School, Pune and 2^nd Best speaker went to B Lakshmi Naramsimha, Symbiosis School of Law, Nagpur. 

Hon’ble Justice Anil Kumar Sinha, Former Judge of Supreme Court of Nepal, Professor S. Sivakumar, Sr. Professor of Indian Law Institute, New Delhi, Member of Law Commission of India and President of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association and Hon’ble Justice NK Jain,  Former Chairperson, Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission and Former Chief Justice of Karnataka and Madras High Court will be adjudging the final round and will also be the Guests at the Valedictory Session on 16^th March, 2024 (Saturday).

Justice Anil Kumar Sinha began by congratulating the teachers and students of Seedling School of Law and Governance for organizing a competition that has attracted participation from law colleges all over the country. He mentioned that mooting plays a very important role in this field. He addressed the students with full of zeal and zest and congratulated them. He said, “Mooting is first platform to learn the advocacy skill. In recent years, moot courts have emerged as an indispensable part of legal education. This activity gives the students an opportunity to sharpen their skills for extensive research and precise argumentation by exposing them to the simulated environment of a courtroom.” He said that the simple fact of participating in such activities is more important than winning or losing. “While a healthy sense of competition does indeed motivate the law students to improve their skills, in the long run they must remember that there are shades of grey when they eventually take up legal practice.”

Professor S. Sivakumar, Sr. Professor of Indian Law Institute, New Delhi, Member of Law Commission of India and President of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association congratulated the University for naming of the moot court competition after the teacher (Prof (Dr) VS Mani, Founding Director of SSLG). He focused on the importance of moot court exercise and its relevance in today’s contemporary legal field. He talked about their time when there was no moot court and how they get to learn about the law is only by theory but nowadays there are moot courts and many activities by which it becomes easier to get to know the law in the fastest way. He advised to read and learn as learning cannot be stopped. He stressed the need for mooting culture

Dr. Sandeep Bakshi appreciated the efforts of Law School faculties and students in holding this prestigious event. He spoke about the introduction of mooting by Prof (Dr) VS Mani in Seedling School of Law and Governance, when he was the founding Director of the institute. Dr. Bakshi proudly stated, “The Indian legal acumen is unparallel and the purpose of such Moot Courts is to nurture them further.” He urged all the participants of the Moot Court Competition to aim at becoming distinguished legal professionals of the world.

All the 26 teams locked horns with one another to qualify for the Quarter finals and the 8 Quarter finalist teams included Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, SLS, Nagpur, SLS, Pune, Trinity Institute of Professional Studies, New Delhi, Marwadi University, Ahmedabad, KLE University, Bengaluru, JIMSEMTC and IIMT Institute.

Of the 8 teams, 4 teams –  Trinity Institute of Professional Studies, New Delhi, Marwadi University, KLE University, Bengaluru and JIMSEMTC competed further to make it to the semi-finals. The 4 semi finalist teams of rubbed their shoulders against one another to make it to the finals on 16^th March, 2024. Battling the sharp competition of the semi-final rounds, the teams of Marwadi University, Rajkot and KLE University, Bengaluru, made the worthy finalists.
