ABOUT BOOK RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN THE ERA OF GLOBALIZATION

Globalization has both positive and negative effect every sphere of life and every community across the globe including indigenous peoples. Globalization has brought the world closer both physically and virtually, which results, it has brought indigenous peoples closer contract with the rest of the world. It has opened vista for new opportunities to peoples, but at the same time hindered the ability of the indigenous peoples to retain their, inter alia, custom, tradition, and practices; and some cases posed as a threat to their very existence and identity. Globalization result the alienation of indigenous peoples lands for various purposes like construction dams, mining projects, setting up of wildlife sanctuaries, construction of government infrastructure. Because of their close relationships to land, water and natural resources therein, and their marginalized social and economic positions, indigenous peoples living in current era are vulnerable to its impacts, yet have the potential to benefit from its opportunities as well. The closer contract of the indigenous peoples with rest of the world has serious impact upon their culture through tourism and trade and along with digital media, that lead to the exploitation of large parts of the world previously untouched by western culture has resulted in indigenous groups being exploited for the benefits of global entities. Besides, globalization often produced traumatic and violent changes in many of these indigenous societies. A number of cases, these peoples were absorbed as subordinate ethnic groups in larger nation-states or in some cases became extinct.

However, globalization has brought new opportunities to indigenous peoples as well. With the emerging connectivity provided by technology and technology-based services, there is now better and more extensive access to programs and services that may have been unavailable before due to isolation or low populace. Globalization has created employment opportunities in previously economically challenged regions. The internet has opened up new possibilities for indigenous groups to preserve and share their cultural heritage as well as their traditional languages. In some cases, indigenous groups have found new venues to share culturally significant stories and practices with the non-indigenous world and with each other.

Therefore, this is a little effort to discuss and analyse the impact of globalization upon the lives and society of indigenous peoples.
